focused shockwave

Focused shockwave therapy (F-SWT) or "high energy" shockwave can be extremely helpful for chronic tendon and bony injuries

It is a non-invasive treatment that delivers high energy,  electromagnetic waves up to 12cm deep to target chronic injuries. The energy waves are focused through a lens, to allow deeper, more precise tratment.

Most traditional "shockwave" treatments offered at clinics are radial pressure waves or "low energy". These treatments can be useful for superifical tissues, but they are 1/100 of the energy of the F-SWT and lack the deeper penetration needed.

Studies have shown F-SWT can be helpful in treating the following chronic problems:

  • Chronic rotator cuff damage (tendinosis, partial tears)

  • Calcific tendinopathies

  • Plantar fascitis

  • Non-union/delayed union bony injuries

It typically requries a series of 3 sessions administed by one of our therapists. There can be some discomfort during the procedure and depending on the area treated, local anesthetic can be provided by one of our physicians prior to the treatment.
